In this chapter Yancey defines reflection as” the processes by which we know what we have accomplished and by which we articulate accomplishment and the products of those processes.” The article that I found would define reflection as “coming to a conclusion and then analyzing the steps that you took to achieve that conclusion. She uses other professionals’ definitions of reflection in her article and uses other scholars’ ideas to support her stance. According to Yancey reflection allows you to articulate what we have learned for ourselves. I would say reflection and rhetorical situation and audience are linked through the writer because when you are setting up a situation for the audience you have to take to reflect on why you are doing so. When you think about genre you have to think about your audience, your writing style and all of these require a reflection on your old work and what you are trying to accomplish with your text. This information does match what I found on my website about reflection because the connection between these definitions require you to analyze the steps you took to achieve the meaning of each definition.

What I want reader to achieve by looking at this picture is to analyze what the information they have received and break it down on why things happened, how they happened and then put everything together so that your thought make sense.

When I think about the word audience, I see people and these people are the readers or listeners of an artist. When I think of audience I think about the literature, music, art, and talent. When thinking of audience, I also think understanding, knowledge, teaching, and learning. Your audience is important to writing because they are who judge your text and spark conversation about your writing. My definition helps me understand why the authors write and the audience they are trying to engage. Each author is not trying to pull in the audience of everyone in the world or in the unites states. The authors target a certain population and make their text appealing to this group. Chris Wilcha complicates the notion of audience through narration because he is not talking to an audience or a person, we are hearing his thoughts through 3rd person. In Anzaldua text I noticed that when it comes to audience some individuals may not except what you are saying because you have a different accent, you are form a different nationality, race, or religion. This makes it challenging to gain a bigger audience and allow your writing or word to become more popular.

My definition of audience has not necessarily changed, but these readings did make me think about understanding and acceptance. Not everyone will be interested in hearing what you have to say, and their reasoning may not always be fair.

In this text Bitzer defines rhetorical situation as “a complex of persons, events, objects, and relations presenting an actual or potential exigence which can lead to completely or partially removed if discouraged.” He associates the terms subject, audience, content, and speech to his definition. My definition of Rhetorical situation would be an act created by a writer that makes an issue to the audience to write or speak. An example of a rhetorical situation is Iron Man dying in the Marvels movie because he was a hero to everyone, and he was one of the main people in their group and he saves everyone then he dies. The writer made a subject which was Iron Man, an event him dying, and a issue which was also him dying and made the audience speak because they were sad about Iron Man dying.

Rhetorical Situations relate to genre because they can happen in many genres and make the audience exigence.

There can be many definitions to the word genre. To me, genre is the type of text in literature. The way you write or read can determine how you choose the genre of a text. I have written about true events and sometimes even written to spark conversation with a person, these are both in a category of genre. Depending on who your audience is, you will quickly understand that genre is very important. I like to think as genre as an artistic idea, enabling an artist to be creative with his or her work.

The author defines genre as recognizable, self reinforcing forms of communication. Some similarities that I see is that the audience is very important when describing genre because the way the audience receives your text is what ultimately what will classify different genres. When writing for an audience the goal is to spark communication and get your point across. The only difference in our definitions online seem to be directed towards exactly what is see in the text while the authors says its more about the audience because they are the judges of your text.

In the many commencement speaks that I have heard the speaker gives a lot of advice and images of a path that you can be led on in life. They give you advice from what they have learned In their lifetime and tell you how to live your life. For Collin’s commencement speak he did not give a lot of advice except for to slow down in life and see things for what they are. He delivered a speech that didn’t make you want to rush into the next part of your life and see what will happen. He delivered a speech that would make you want to live each day to the fullest and experience as much as you can in your life. Based on my observations a commence address is a speech of motivation to get people to be their best in life. A commencement speech is something to make people feel good about the event and wrap things up. I watched Justin Timberlake’s commencement speech address from 2019, he talked a lot about his life in the speech and gave some people from his life who helped his get to where he is now. He gave one word od advice and that was there are going to be failures in your life but listen to people because you are defined for what you define failure as. He taught them to appreciate those moments because it will make you appreciate who you are. This keep my observation of a commencement speech true because he gave motivation and helped other find their true self so they can be great. The last one I watched was Will Ferrell address in 2017. He talked about his life and the tough times in his life. He told people to not be afraid of failure and to think what if they never tried. This also kept my observation of commencement speeches true.

Writing can be many different things. Knowledge, experience, practice, expression and emotions. When I write, I feel that I can express my truest and deepest feelings. Some days I may feel like writing about how I feel while other days I may feel like writing about knowledge I may have acquired. Either way, I am allowing myself to be free.

In my opinion, successful writing is being able to get a point across.  It does not matter what the subject matter may be, but if someone else is able to feel and understand what is being written, you have achieved your goal.

I see myself as a storyteller. I enjoy being able to bring people into my small world. Everyone in this world has their own opinions and morals. I like people to understand why I may feel or do certain things. I believe that is the most genuine way to teach one another.

In this text you quickly understand that writing can be interpreted by many different people in many ways. Some things as simple as a commencement speech can be taken very seriously, as if it is a piece of literature. Everything is not meant to be taken so seriously, but in consideration of other sometimes we may feel it is necessary to do so.
